Mounting Your Weather Station? Here's What You Should Know
Alright so one of the first things you need to decide when you get a new weather station is where exactly you're gonna put the sensors outside. Before permanently installing it, I'd recommend testing it out for a week somewhere that's easy to access. This lets you check that everything is working properly and get familiar with how it all works and the calibration process.
Make sure to do a site survey first. Things to consider include:
You'll need to clean the rain gauge every few months and change the batteries every 2-3 years, so put it somewhere you can easily reach. It's also important to avoid direct heat from buildings or other structures - usually at least 5 feet away is good. And don't put it where wind or rain could be blocked by things like buildings or trees - follow the rule of having it 4 times further than the height of any obstructions.
Mount it in direct sunlight for accurate temperature readings. And avoid putting it over sprinkler systems or unnatural plants, as that could affect the humidity and temp readings - natural vegetation is better.
The wireless range is usually around 100 feet as long as there's no interfering objects like buildings, trees, cars, or power lines in between. And make sure to put the display console at least 5 feet from electronics like TVs or computers to avoid interference issues.
Once you pick the spot, that's when you'll want to figure out what type of mounting poles or brackets you need to securely hold everything up.
